My favorite meal of all time is at Disneyland ... Cafe Orleans.
I knew I had to do a "best of" tour when it came to food, because I was only visiting Disneyland for a short time. I scoured the internet to see which meals I didn't want to miss while in the parks, and Cafe Orleans constantly popped up on every review.
I absolutely LOVE New Orleans. We used to live beside it years ago, and it still has a huge piece of my heart. I hunt for the best eateries that give me that true Cajun feel whenever we visit. Needless to say, my NOLA themed meals have a pretty high bar to live up to.
Located in New Orleans Square, Cafe Orleans restaurant serves some of the best food I have ever eaten. Even having eaten in NOLA, the offerings at this restaurant blew me away. The Monte Cristo is a genius creation. The only way to properly explain this amazing meal is to "imagine if a sandwich and a beignet had a baby”. Maybe that sounds weird for you, but let me just tell you...IT WORKS! They combine a huge portion of turkey and ham perfectly blended together with a gooey melted swiss, making this meal amazing on its own.
However, in true Disney fashion, they did not stop there. Rather than putting this on a bread, they dipped the entire concoction into Beignet dip and then fried it. They topped it with a dusting of powdered sugar, and then served it with a mouthwatering berry puree. I mean, if this was as good as life gets, then I would have been happy. Someone in New Orleans would make a killing serving up this NOLA combo. I am sure I looked absolutely crazy as I was licking up and drip or crumb that fell onto the plate.
And the meal did not stop there, although I would have been completely satisfied. I paired the Monte Cristo with the Pom Frittes and was amazed. These potatoes got the royal treatment as they were tossed in a combination of parmesan and garlic, with quite a heavy hand. Then with a spicy Cajun Remoulade sauce, and they were complete. They were expertly prepared and offered the amazing coating with each bite.
The combination of the sweet Monte Cristo with the flavorful and spicy Pom Frittes resulted in a meal that I never wanted to end. I could not even finish everything, and almost wrapped the leftovers up into my bag to eat while I walked the park. Trust me, if my bag had any room left, I would have! Cafe Orleans definitely ranks as my all time favorite Disney Restaurant!
